Rob's Story

This is a Vesper, corrected.

The original recipe called for Lillet Blanc back when it contained quinine. Modern versions do not, which throws off the structure. Cocchi Americano brings that bitterness back and puts the drink where it should be.

The split base stays true to the Vesper, but let us be honest, the gin is doing the heavy lifting. The vodka is there for texture, not personality.

Shaken vs stirred? Stirred wins here. You get proper integration and controlled dilution without beating the drink up.

The orange bitters are not traditional, but they round the edges just enough to make everything sit together. The saline does the rest, quietly.

Pro Tips

Cocchi Americano restores the quinine bitterness the original Lillet Blanc once carried.
Orange bitters + 2 drops of 20% saline quietly round the edges.

History

The original Vesper called for Lillet Blanc when it still contained quinine. Post-reformulation Lillet lost that backbone — Cocchi Americano restores it.
